Andrew Cannon

Andrew is a partner based in the Herbert Smith Freehills office in London. He specialises in international arbitration and public international law. He has acted before arbitral tribunals in many different jurisdictions, under the auspices of the major institutional rules and under a variety of governing laws, with extensive experience in Africa.

Andrew has extensive experience of acting for and advising both states and investors in investment treaty disputes. In 2017, Andrew was appointed to the Attorney General’s Public International Law “A” Panel of Counsel, making him a preferred legal adviser to the UK Government.

Andrew previously worked as a senior assistant legal adviser to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office where he worked on a broad range of international legal and policy matters, including on postings in New York and Brussels.
