Hon Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch (Rtd)
Hon. Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch (RTD) is the immediate past First Vice- President, of the International Criminal Court, at The Hague, The Netherlands. Prior to that she was a Judge of Appeal in Kenya, and has extensive experience in training judges and magistrates in the provisions of regional and international human rights instruments.
She holds an LLB Degree from the University of Nairobi, Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs (GMAP), from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA, which granted her the Distinguished Achievement Award in April, 2015.
Justice Aluoch has in the past few years successfully moved her profession to other dispute resolution mechanisms, namely Arbitration and Mediation. She is a member of the London and the Kenyan branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the International Council of Commercial Arbitration (ICCA), and Arbitral Women International. She is also an Accredited Mediator from the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), London. She has recently qualified as a trainer in Mediation, after completion of the Strathmore College Dispute Resolution Centre’s train the trainer’s course in Mediation, in Kenya. She has participated in several arbitration and mediation conferences, as a speaker or chair, in Europe and Africa.
At home in Kenya, she is a recipient of two national honours awarded by the President of the Republic of Kenya, for services rendered to the nation. These are, Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS), and First Class Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS).
