Nikhil Hira

Nikhil Hira is a the Regional Representative of the Eastern Africa Association and a director at the law firm Bowman’s Coulson Harney LLP in the firms tax department.

Prior to this he was a partner in Deloitte East Africa based in the Nairobi office leading the East African tax practice.

He holds a BSc Joint Honours in Accountancy and Process Engineering from the University of Salford in Manchester, England.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya.  He is also registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda and the National Accountants and Auditors Board in Tanzania.

Nikhil has specialised in taxation since 1987 in various jurisdictions around the world including the UK and East Africa.  He has acted for and advised on a wide range of clients from family businesses to multinationals on all aspects of taxation.  His experience covers routine tax compliance work, tax planning, international tax and transaction advisory from both a direct and indirect tax perspective.  During his over thirty five years of experience, he spent 8 years working in a family business in India which has served him well in advising clients in a professional capacity.

He is a regular commentator on matters tax in the East African region and has over the years been involved in many successful lobbying campaigns to change or introduce new tax laws.  He is a past council member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Kenya and during this period also served on the Tax & Public Finance and Professional Standards committees.
